We sat down with The Flower Room owner, Wayne, to talk all things winter in floristry. Here are his top tips, ideas and inspiration for your next winter event, wedding or simply for flowers in your home.
What flowers are in season over winter?
There are a number of flowers starting to come out now for winter. There are the usual favourites; iris, sweet pea, and violets. The flowers we are currently in love with are anemones, ranunculus and jonquils.
How are you using these floras for events this season?
Both ranunculus and anemones are a favourite amongst flower lovers and are becoming popular with brides for their bridal bouquets and floral arrangements. We just can't get enough of them either!
What is unique to winter that you get really excited about using?
We really love to get creative with arrangements and add hints of winter pieces. Imagine pinecones, deep red berries, ivy and dark foliage or winter fruits and vegetables added into arrangements to add intrigue and a winter feel.
Do you have anything new and exciting to The Flower Room showroom?
At the moment we have beautiful wattle, which are flowering everywhere at the moment. These are bright yellow and all you need is a small bunch to light up the room – perfect for adding colour to your winter event.
