Our function venues at the University of Sydney cater to events of all sizes and occasions. No matter what you’re celebrating, Holme Building event spaces create the perfect desired atmosphere for your event. Dating from 1913, the Holme Building has an array of unique heritage event spaces to make your next function truly one-of-a-kind.

Whether you’re looking to channel an intimate or expansive form of celebration, Holme Building venue hire offers function venues that hold optimal charm and character. Ornately decorated and spacious, each of our event spaces can host plentiful cocktail set-ups depending on the size that you’re after.

REFECTORY

A setting with sky-high ceilings, French windows, heritage wood panelling and an impressive feature mural to get your guests talking. With a floor area of 298 square metres, this space can hold from 220 guests banquet-style, to 500 in a cocktail setup.

DRAWING ROOM

Intimate and event-friendly, this space is warm and welcoming. With classic panelling and exposed beams, it’s an elegant venue filled with character. With a floor area of 125 square metres, this space can hold from 70 guests banquet-style, to 120 in a cocktail setup.

SUTHERLAND ROOM

This unique space can be set up to suit any occasion and divided into distinct areas to suit the flow of your event. With a floor area of 168 square metres, this space can hold from 90 guests banquet style, to 150 in a cocktail setup.

CULLEN ROOM

Brilliant for business events – conveniently split it into two areas for versatility. With a floor area of 171 square metres, this space can hold from 90 guests banquet-style, to 150 in a cocktail setup.

CHANCELLORS ROOM

With a floor area of 55 square metres, this space can hold from 18 boardroom style, to 25 in a cocktail setup. This dedicated space offers outstanding catering options and high-speed Wi-Fi with great coffee and a modern cafe close by.

COLONNADE & TERRACE

A Mediterranean styled space with grand arches, the Colonnade is a stunning alfresco space, perfect for cocktails. Upstairs, the Mediterranean vibes continue to the Terrace, creating a unique space for a long table affair. With a floor area of 102 square metres, this space can hold 80 guests at a long table, to 100 in a cocktail setup.

COURTYARD

With a floor area of 608 square metres, this space can hold from 250 guests banquet-style, to 500 in a cocktail setup. This dedicated space offers outstanding catering options and a bar with great staff. This space is also perfect for hosting an after-hours event.

COTTAGE LAWNS

Split in two lawns with manicured hedging, there’s the option to use one, or both, for a variety of occasions, from cocktail hour to lawn games. With a total area of 161 square metres, this space can hold from 50 guests theatre-style for a ceremony in the larger lawn, to 150 in a cocktail setup across both lawns.

Where are our venues located?

Level 4, Holme Building, Science Road
University of Sydney, NSW 2006

Holme Building venue hire is conveniently located along Science Road, within the grounds of the University of Sydney. Paid parking is available close by and we are accessible by bus and train, being within an easy 20-minute walk from Central Station.

Pay & Display parking is available on Science Road and around the University of Sydney at a flat rate. Hourly parking is available after 3pm except at the Western Avenue and Shepherd Street Car parks.

Driving away from the city on Parramatta Road turn left into the grounds at the Ross Street entrance, then take the first left onto Science Road. Drive up Science Road and you will arrive at the Holme Building.

Central station is a 20-minute walk along George Street and Parramatta Road. Alternatively, jump on a bus from Central and hop off at the Footbridge bus stop.

Buses to and from Central station are frequent and easy to catch to the grounds. If you are arriving by bus, there are convenient stops on Parramatta Road. Then it’s a short walk up the Footbridge steps.
